Harrisburg boy gets birthday surprise from police, firefighters

Jyhire Barber, of Harrisburg, loves fire trucks and police cars.

So for his 7th birthday this week, his grandmother called Blake Lynch, the city’s community policing coordinator, to see if he could arrange a visit from a police or fire truck.

Lynch got her voicemail message Thursday morning, and within hours, assembled a parade of four police vehicles, a fire truck and two ambulance vehicles as a surprise for Jyhire’s birthday.

Lynch and Police Officer Josh Hammer rode in the parade in a police van and stopped at Jyhire’s home near 19th and Paxton streets to give him a bag of police swag, including badges, stickers, coloring books and crayons.
